Is Deet safe to use?
DEET insect repellent is quite an aggressive chemical and can damage plastics, lacquers etc.
It is safe for use on the skin, but is harmful if you get contact with eyes or mouth. If you are
sensible with the chemical, it is perfectly safe. Remember malaria is spread by mosquitoes and can
be fatal, you need to protect yourself and currently DEET insect repellent is proven to be the most
effective repellent against mosquitoes.
How long will this repellent last?
The deet mosquito repellent lasts for 2 years from when it was first opened.
How much repellent would I need for a week?
This depends on how much protection you need and how frequently you apply the repellent. As a rule of thumb 50 mls lasts about 1 week for 1 person. 100ml 2 weeks for 1 person.
What does the plus mean in Expedition Plus Repellent?
The PLUS is a further protection layer of natural oil that inhibits any mosquito from biting if it does land on you.
Which strength Deet should I choose?
Deet mosquito repellent comes in different strengths and the higher the percentage, the longer it lasts. For travel to malaria risk areas you should be using a Deet based repellent with a strength of 50% or higher.
Can I use this in pregnancy or on children?
No, it is recommended that pregnant or breast feeding women and babies/children older than 2 months use a strength of up to 50% Deet only. DEET is not usually recommended for babies under 2 months. If you are travelling when pregnant or with young children you always seek medical advice on malaria prevention, vaccinations and travel health risks in the country you are visiting.
Can I take insect repellent on a plane?
Yes you can take on a plane, however you should check with your airline for current guidance.We recommend placing it in a sealed bag and putting it with your luggage in the main hold of the plane.
