Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot in the body's deep veins. DVTs usually occur in the lower leg and can be dangerous as part of the clot can break off and travel to the lungs which can be fatal.

Travel related DVT can occur following any type of immobility, such as long haul flights (longer than 6 hours) or on a long car or train journey. Wearing compression socks or flight socks should be worn by those at increased risk of DVT.
